Juan de Andrés – Open Limit

The Tecla Sala art center in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat presents the exhibition Juan de Andrés – Open Limit. Curated by the critic, poet and photographer Juan Bufill, it is a journey through the work of this artist of our gallery focused on the last 40 years of his career, but giving special relevance to the last 10 years, where the veteran artist from Uruguay shows that he is still in top form, as demonstrated by the achievement of the Figari Prize, the most important of the plastic arts in his country.

Our gallery has collaborated intensely in this exhibition to ensure that the selection of works and the documentation was as careful as possible and to allow us to get to know the figure of Juan de Andrés in depth.

De Andrés has lived in Catalonia for more than 30 years, and has installed different sculptures in emblematic places of the country, but this institutional recognition does justice to an artist who has to be vindicated within our cultural panorama, to his task as an artist, we have to add his years of teaching, especially in places like the EINA school in Barcelona or his workshops in St.Boi de Llobregat.

The curator of the exhibition Juan Bufill defines the artist’s work:

“De Andrés has been able to compose his entire oeuvre on the basis of approaches in which painting always seems to be on the verge of becoming something else. His expanded painting establishes and breaks boundaries, offers developments, displays and values that are usually identified as belonging to architecture, music and sculpture.

Without the need for figures, only through the relationships between geometric shapes, tones, colors and materials, he reflects vital values that also express spiritual values: serenity, freedom, warmth, wisdom, mental and sensorial openness”.

Juan de Andrés – Open Limit can be visited until June 30th, we encourage you to go and enjoy the work of this exceptional artist.
