Picasso, F\u00edn, Vilat\u00f3, Xavier \u201d<\/a>, showing the work as engraves made by Picasso, his nephews <a href=\"\/?p=3078\"><strong>J.F\u00edn<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"\/?p=3542\"><strong>Javier Vilat\u00f3<\/strong><\/a> and of Xavier, son of VIlat\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>J.F\u00edn and Vilat\u00f3 have been artists of <a href=\"\/?page_id=278\">our gallery<\/a> for decades. Members of the <a href=\"\/?artistas-categorias=vanguardias-historiques-en\">School of Paris<\/a>, the graphic arts were for them an important part of their artistic expression from the beggining of their career in the Barcelona of the post-Civil War , when they presented together alongside Alberto Fabra and Pierrette Gargallo the exhibition \u201c24 grabados\u201d (24 engravings) at the Reig galleries.<\/p>\n<p>In 1939, they escape to France after the Spanish Civil War and are inmates at the Argeles refugee\u2019s camp. Picasso will rescue them and although these are extremely hard moments on a personal level, they had the privilege of investigate the world of graphic arts alongside their uncle at the Lacouri\u00e8re Fr\u00e9laut studio. This experience will reinforce their interest on this technique, often considered minor, and they will continue working on it for the rest of their career.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00edn would work on several series of engravings, such as the surrealist \u201cEl fafarreo\u201d, or the ones dedicated to bullfighting, he would even present solo exhibitions dedicated exclusively to engravings. In his later years, when he was extremely sick and without strength, graphic arts had a great importance in his work, with a new series focusing on the theme of horses.<\/p>\n<p>After his death, International art fairs focused on graphic arts such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.estampa.org\/\">Estampa<\/a> in Madrid or Saga in France, have features his work.Currently, a great part of his production is at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bnc.cat\/eng\/Collections\/Search-the-collections\/Vilato-Ruiz-Josep\">Biblioteca Nacional de Catalunya<\/a> (Catalonia\u2019s National Library) thanks to a donation of the family of the artist<\/p>\n<p>Vilat\u00f3 also had a special interest in graphic art. He concentrated a lot into it all through his career. He presented several exhibitions dedicated solely to engraving and in recognition to his mastery as engraver, by the end of the decade of the 60s he was appointed as member of the <em>Societ\u00e9 des Peintres Graveurs Fran\u00e7ais.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In 1994, the Museo del Grabado Espa\u00f1ol Contempor\u00e1neo (Spanish Museum of contemporary engraving), located in Marbella, opened the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marbella.es\/inicio\/agenda\/eventodetalle\/3179\/-\/vilato-ruiz-obra-grafica.html\">Vilat\u00f3 Room<\/a>, that presents a selection of his works as well as prints, matrixesand several tools used by him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From October 26th and until the next 17th of January, the Picasso Museum of Barcelona presents the exhibition \u201c The shared studio.
